Annville, PA – Messiah College was honored with four Conference Players of the Week on Monday, as
Drew Engle,
Hillary Pelkey,
Justin Sisson, and
Matt Burkhart were recognized for their outstanding performances for the Falcons in their respective sports.
The awards are voted upon weekly by a panel of Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) sports information directors.
Drew Engle – Sophomore – Men's Track & Field
This past weekend, Drew took first place in the decathlon at the Messiah Invitational scoring 5,803 points. The total is good for #13 in NCAA Division III competition this season and #1 in the MAC.
Within the decathlon he took first in the 1,500 meter run (4:41.52), first in the pole vault (3.94 meters), first in the long jump (6.16 meters), second in the 100 meter dash (11.74), and third in the javelin (44.20 meters).
Hillary Pelkey – Senior – Women's Track & Field
Hillary achieved a number of excellent marks this past weekend at the Messiah Invitational. She started out by placing third in the Heptathlon with a score of 3,653 and winning the javelin portion of the heptathlon with a throw of 116'7". Both of those results puts her #2 in the MAC and #36 in NCAA Division III this season.
With a throw of 40'11" she took first place in the event and set a new school record. That number was also good for second in the MAC and #38 in NCAA Division III this season. Hillary also took third in the javelin (109'11", #5 in MAC) and fifth in the high jump (4'9.75").
Justin Sisson and Matt Burkhart – Men's Golf
The two golfers were named co-Players of the Week in acknowledgment tying for first place among 87 golfers at the Rutgers-Camden Invitational with even-par 70 scores, four strokes ahead of second place. They led the team to their fifth-straight first place finish (18 teams) and an overall 60-2 record this spring season.
This result is a follow-up performance for Burkhart, as he was
conference Player of the Week last week as well.
