Greenwood, IN – The 2013-14 Capital One Academic All-District Softball teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, were released on Thursday with Messiah's Courtney Allen listed among the award recipients.

Each year, CoSIDA elects Academic All-District members across NCAA Division I, II, III, and "College Division."  The College Division is comprised of NAIA, two-year, and Canadian student-athletes. Student-athletes are nominated by current CoSIDA members—usually an institution's Sports Information Director— and must carry at least 3.30 cumulative grade point average (GPA). Nominated student-athletes must also be of sophomore athletic eligibility and be significant contributors to the success of their team.

Those selected as First Team Academic All-District will be eligible for the All-American team to be selected later in the season. Since 2011, both the All-District and All-American awards have been sponsored by Capital One.

Allen earned the honor for the first time in her career. A sophomore accounting major, Allen carries a 3.87 GPA as the Falcons' centerfielder. Entering this weekend's Commonwealth Championships Tournament she is batting .422 with five doubles, four triples, two homeruns, 21 RBI, and 28 runs scored. Her on-base percentage is .527 and her slugging percentage is a team-best .633. She has collected at least one hit in all but seven of the Falcons' 34 games.

Last season Allen hit .311 as Messiah's starting shortstop. This season she moved to center and has blossomed in every area of her game.

Allen and the Falcons enter this weekend's conference tournament looking for both their fourth conference title and fifth NCAA Regionals appearance in the past six seasons.
