XML Box Score Grantham, PA - In a game cut about nine minutes short by a thunderstorm, four different Falcons scored goals in the 5-1 win over the Gettysburg College Bullets. Messiah went into the half up 1-0 and turned up the heat in the second-half, scoring four goals in less than 22 minutes. The lone first-half goal was scored after many chances by
Joshua Wood while he was in the box, putting a move around his defender and forcing it past the keeper.
Messiah could have had more goals in half number one but Bullets keeper Connor Darrell made six of his nine saves, most of which could have been highlights among themselves.
Joshua Wood scored his second of the game in the 51st minute on a header after passes from
Drew Frey and
Mike Kovach.
Aaron Myers and
Zack Bosshard scored thier first goals of the season for the third and fourth goals in the 55th and 72nd minutes of the game, respectively. Finally, goal number five was put away by
Bryant Myer in spectacular fashion from outside the box on a free kick, blasted to the left-side upper 90.
Messiah completely dominated the stat sheet in this game, eclipsing the Bullets in several categories. The Falcons outshot Gettysburg 36-4, with 14 of those being on goal. Only four fouls were committed by the Falcons, versus the Bullets' 13.
The undefeated squad was able to play the game the way they wanted against Gettysburg, keeping possession on their side for the majority of the game. Starting goalkeeper
Brandon West was not forced to make any saves in this game, and was subbed out in the 69th minute. Gettysburg looked to be on their heels, especially during the second half, due to the strong second line and fresh legs of the Falcons' bench.
Gettysburg was able to get just their second goal of the season as the final score of the game in the 74th minute by Brooks Taylor on a breakaway, slotted past keeper
Aaron Hennigan.
The win improves the Falcons' undefeated record to 5-0 this season, while the Bullets drop to 0-4 on the year. Messiah will travel for their next game to Catholic University this Saturday, Sept. 14, with a game time at 1:00 p.m.
