Grantham, PA – Messiah College is hosting the annual Messiah Track & Field Invitational this weekend, with the men's Decathlon and women's Heptathlon taking place on Thursday and Friday.
Friday, Apr. 12 - Update 9:15 p.m.
Drew Engle finished in first place in the Decathlon on Friday, collecting 5,803 points to finish almost 70 points ahead of his nearest competitor. The point total was the second-best ever of Engle's career, falling just shy of the 5,085 points he collected in his freshman campaign.
On Friday, Engle finished first in the 1,500 meter run (4:41.52), first in the Pole Vault (3.94 meters), and second in the Javelin among competitors who finished the Decathlon events.
Tim Hampton of Messiah finished in ninth place wth 3,678 points.
Friday, Apr. 12 - Update 5:55 p.m.
Hillary Pelkey and
Alyssa Mills placed third and fourth, respectively, in the Heptathlon this afternoon, with Juniata's Angela Shaffer taking first place with 3,778 points. Pelkey scored 3,653 points, with her 35.54 meter throw in the Javelin placing first among all competitors.
Pelkey's Javelin throw earned her 582 points, while Mills' throw of 32.95 meters was just behind Pelkey and earned 533 points. Mills also stood out in the Long Jump, leaping 4.88 meters to finish first among the field for 527 points. Mills' strong showing on Friday propelled her from a standing of seventh place on Thursday to her fourth place finish.

After day one at the annual Messiah College Track & Field Invitational both
Drew Engle and
Hillary Pelkey are currently second place in the Decathlon and Heptathlon, respectively.
Engle has 3,026 points through the first five events, with 621 points coming from a first place finish in the Long Jump. He also picked up 703 points in the 100 meter dash after finishing in 11.74 seconds—good for second place by just 0.02 seconds behind Devin Francillon of Frostburg State.
Francillon leads the Decathlon with 3,060 points.
Tim Hampton is currently in tenth place with 2,308 points.
In the Heptathlon Pelkey sits in second place with 2,196 points—just eight points ahead of third place Katy Fogel of Elizabethtown. Pelkey's big performance came in the Shot Put as her toss measured 12.06 meters. The throw accounted for 665 points as she was the only performer to collect a throw beyond nine meters.
Alyssa Mills is in seventh place in the Heptathlon with 1,893 points after four events.
The Decathlon and Heptathlon will be completed on Friday.
