NFHCA 2013 All-Americans
Parker Ford, PA – Messiah College field hockey players
Gina Kellett and
Moriah Pfautz were honored by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) and Longstreth Field Hockey on Monday as each were named All-Americans. Kellett took home First Team honors; Pfautz was named to the Third Team.
Â
Kellett's First Team honor follows last season's Third Team recognition, and also last week's First Team All-Region selection. The senior midfielder scored four goals and collected five assists this year, but her reputation has been built on her stellar midfield and defensive work; Kellett helped Messiah to a 1.36 goals against average (GAA), good for 27th in the nation.
Â
This season Kellett also took home
Commonwealth Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors.
For Pfautz—the Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Year—the Third Team honor caps an impressive first-year campaign with the Falcons. She led Messiah on offense with 24 goals and 51 points, with her point total being the highest for a first-year Falcon since Danae (Chambers) Hollenbach scored 63 points in 2001. Her 1.28 goals per game average was seventh in the nation and her 2.68 points per game was t-17th. Both marks were tops among first-year players.
Â
The crafty and aggressive forward put through five game-winners, perhaps none more impressive than
the goal that clinched Messiah's seventh-straight Commonwealth Championship.
Â
The Falcons qualified for their 13th-straight NCAA Championships Tournament this season before falling 2-1 to Catholic University. Messiah finished with a 15-6 record.
