Grantham, PA – Messiah College coach Dale Fogelsanger was honored last week by his alma mater, Hanover High School, in being awarded the 2012 Hanover Athletic Booster Club Alumni Award. The award is “presented to an alumnus who has accomplished significant athletic or athlete-related accomplishments since graduation.”

Fogelsanger, a 1983 graduate of Hanover, is finishing his 17th season with the Falcons in 2011-12. He serves as the head coach of the men's and women's cross country, and indoor and outdoor track & field teams. Every one of those programs has won at least one conference championship with Fogelsanger at the helm, with the women's outdoor track & field team winning their 7th straight MAC Championship in 2012.

In total, Fogelsanger has lead his Falcons' teams to 19 conference championships. He has also been named a conference coach of the year 19 different times, while being named the NCAA Division III Mideast Region coach of the year five times.

He has also coached 32 NCAA All-American performances and five NCAA National Championship performances.

Fogelsanger arrived at Messiah College in the fall of 1983 as a student, and went on to a very successful student-athlete career as a member of the men's outdoor track & field team. Entering the 2012 season, Fogelsanger was still #2 all-time in the 400-meter dash—a time that was beaten this season by freshman Alex Yoder.

“This recognition is a huge honor, having never been a standout athlete in high school myself," Fogelsanger said, reflecting on the award from his alma mater. “Hanover athletics has a great history, and I'm very proud to be apart of that history.

“It's also pretty special to have the recognition be reflective of our accomplishment here at Messiah, because we have a great thing going here. We've had great student-athletes and coaches, and it's been fun to accomplish so much. I love coaching Messiah cross country and track & field and I look forward to continued growth.”

The Falcons' 2012 season will finish this weekend at the NCAA Championships at Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, Calif. Sophomore Liz Martin (400 IH) and freshman Fred Fulton (shot put) will be representing the Falcons, looking to earn College's 6th and 7th NCAA National Championship in track & field.
