Sarah Seneca was named Commonwealth Player of the Week for softball on Monday, recognition for her outstanding performance on the diamond for the Falcons last week. Seneca led Messiah to a record of 5-0, with double-header sweeps of York College and Lycoming College, and another win over Lebanon Valley.
The Falcons' leadoff hitter truly set the table for the Falcons, batting .611 (11-18) with two doubles, three triples, and eight runs scored. Seneca also collected two RBI, and stole three bases. She now has 20 stolen bases, 26 runs scored, and seven triples this season, all tops for Messiah.
On Monday, Seneca went a combined 5-7 with two doubles as
Messiah swept York College, 9-2 and 8-0. In
Tuesday's 7-2 win over Lebanon Valley, Seneca went 3-4 with two triples. She followed up those performances with a combined 3-6 showing at the plate in
Messiah's 3-2 and 5-2 wins over Lycoming.
Seneca led off four of the five games with hits for the Falcons, including a double, triple, and two singles.
For the week, Seneca also played four of the five games behind the plate, leading the Falcons' pitching staff to a 1.75 earned run average (ERA) over the team's five wins.
Messiah's five wins left them with a 21-6 record at the week's end, including a 6-0 record in the Commonwealth Conference.
The Falcons return to action today, April 9, when they travel to Hood College for a double-header. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
