Clermont, FL - The Falcons continued to score a plethora of runs during their Spring Break games at Legends Way Ballpark on Tuesday, earning two decisive wins over Monmouth College and Salve Regina University.

In the opening game, Messiah (6-3) scored 11 runs on 11 hits and freshman Mallory Rutledge (1-2) earned her first collegiate win, holding the Fighting Scots (1-3) to only one run on five hits.

“This was another breakout day of hitting,” head coach Amy Weaver said. “All the players hit well and pitching was amazing, too.”

The Falcons' offense put three runs on the board in the first and added one more in the second, but the third inning was when Messiah broke things open.

Doubles from senior Lauren Seneca and sophomore Krista Ammon and a triple by classmate Sarah Seneca fueled a five hit, seven run third, bringing the Falcons' lead to 11.

“We started out strong offensively, but the third inning was great,” Weaver said. “We saw the ball well and we swung at good pitches. Those seven runs sealed the deal for us.”

L. Seneca ended the game going 1 for 3 with one RBI, Ammon went 2 for 2 with one RBI, and S. Seneca went 3 for 4 with two RBI's and a stolen base.

The second game on the day against the Seahawks (1-3) of Salve Regina University saw a more consistent offensive effort by the Falcons.

Led by senior Jaclyn Merkel, who went 4 for 4 with three RBI's and a two-run homerun in the sixth, Messiah posted runs in five of the six innings played.

Offensively, Ammon was also perfect at the plate, going 3 for 3 with two singles, a triple and two RBI's.

The Falcons pounded 14 hits to the Seahawks' four with extra-base contributions coming from Lehman (double), S. Seneca (triple) and Schell (triple).

In the circle, sophomore Sara Dietrich (2-1) pitched well for the second day in a row, conceding only one run (unearned) in the first, but settled in to keep Salve Regina from adding more tallies. Dietrich allowed just four hits in six innings with seven strike outs and only three walks to earn her second win of the season.

“We came out hitting incredibly well in the second game.” Weaver said. “We're putting the ball in play and we're getting runners on base each inning. Sara [Dietrich] did a great job on the mound for us today. It all came together nicely.”

The Falcons will take a break from game play Wednesday, but look to continue their offensive dominance on Thursday when they face Keene State at 1:00 p.m. and Fairleigh Dickinson College-Florham at 3:00 p.m.
