Annville, PA – Less than five hours before Messiah College women's soccer will begin the defense of their five-straight conference championships, the Commonwealth Conference recognized them with seven All-Conference honors. Senior
Alex Brandt took home Player of the Year honors, the
fifth-straight year a Messiah player has earned the award.
Brandt was joined on the First Team by classmate
Elizabeth Phillips, junior
Alicia Frey, and freshman
Nikki Elsaesser. Freshman keeper
Audra Larson was named to the Second Team, with seniors
Rachel Scheibeler and
Anne Trapp named Honorable Mention.
Brandt's Player of the Year award is the
ninth in the Falcons' program history, and Brandt's election to the First Team is her third in three years with Messiah. Since transferring to Messiah after her freshman year at Central Florida, Brandt has also been a two-time First Team All-American and two-time First Team All-Region performer.
This season, Brandt tied classmate
Rachel Scheibeler for goals scored (8) and assits (5) across nine conference games. Brandt tied for second in game-winning goals in league play with two, second only to Scheibeler and Allie Ondrejcak of Stevenson (3). Over the course of the entire season, Brandt has led Messiah in both goals (12) and assists (9) for 33 total points.
Scheibeler's Honorable Mention election was the first award in the conference for her career. She currently has a total of 10 goals and five assists for the Falcons this year.
For
Alicia Frey, the First Team award follows a
Second Team honor in 2011 and her
Rookie of the Year and First Team honors from 2010. Across nine conference games this season, Frey collected six goals—tied for third among all competitors.
Just yesterday, Frey joined Brandt in being named CoSIDA Academic All-District.
Elizabeth Phillips and
Nikki Elsaesser were each elected for the first time in their career. Elsaesser burst onto the scene this season with four goals and four assists in conference play, while Phillips has been a defensive standout for a Falcons back row that carries a 0.22 goals against average in the Commonwealth. Phillips has shown versatility this year, too, in scoring three goals for Messiah.
Audra Larson was named Second Team in recognition of her 0.22 goals against average and .867 save percentage. She is the last line of defense for a Falcons team that collected a league-best eight shutouts in nine games.
Anne Trapp, another leading defender for Messiah, was named Honorable Mention for her first career conference award.
Trisha Clark, a midfielder for Elizabethtown, earned Rookie of the Year for the Commonwealth. The first year player scored two goals and collected three assists for the Blue Jays, helping them to a 6-1-2 record and No. 3 seed in the Commonwealth Tournament.
Jason Petronis, Elizabethtown's head coach, was named Commonwealth Coach of the Year.
Below is a listing of the entire All-Commonwealth selections for women's soccer.
Note: With the addition of Hood College and Stevenson University in 2012-13, the Commonwealth Conference has added an Honorable Mention team to the All-Conference awards. These are players who received more than one vote for a First or Second Team honor, but were not selected to either of those teams.
