Rees, Geib Reach Milestones in Sweep of Tri-Match

Grantham, PA- The Messiah College Falcons (23-7, 8-1) improved their winning streak to thirteen on Saturday by collecting two wins on Saturday against PSU-Harrisburg (7-24) and Goucher College (9-23).

The Falcons started off the day by sweeping the Lions of PSU- Harrisburg 25-7, 25-10, and 25-13. Messiah's defense did not give up more than 13 points in any set and only gave up 30 points total in the match.

Junior setter Jess Geib dished out 29 assists in the win putting her seven shy of 1,000 assists for the season. Senior outside hitter Lauren Rees knocked 11 kills against Lions giving her 404 for the season, four short of tying Messiah's current season kills record of 408 held by Prisca Chase.

Both Geib and Rees would get their chance to reach their milestones in the Falcons 25-13, 25-18 and 25-18 sweep over the Gophers of Goucher College.

Geib would dish out her 1,000th assist midway through the first set against the Gopher's and tallied 31 total assists for the win. Lauren Rees recorded 11 kills in the win setting the Messiah's single season kills record at 415.

The Falcons finish their regular season 23-7 overall with an 8-1 record in the conference giving Messiah the second seed in the Commonwealth playoffs.

Messiah will host the number No. 3-seed Elizabethtown College on Wednesday, Oct. 31. The Falcons recently defeated Elizabethtown on Oct. 25 in four sets with scores of 25-16, 20-25, 25-17, and 25-23. A win for the Falcons will advance them to the Commonwealth Finals for the second-straight year.
