Grantham, PA — Two players from the Messiah women's soccer team were recently honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for their academic accomplishments.
Junior
Corinne Wulf and senior
Kelsey Gorman were named to the Capital One Academic All-American Second Team for NCAA Division III.
Wulf and Gorman - Academic All-Region selections - have been standout players for a squad that enters the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Final Four with an overall record of 21-0-1, outscoring their opponents 93-4.
Wulf, a Nursing major, has maintained an impressive 3.93 GPA. The forward from Columbus, Ohio, leads the Falcons in goals (21), points (49), and game-winning goals (6).
A Manheim, Pa. native, Gorman is an Accounting major with holding a 3.92 GPA. As a stalwart member of the Falcons' defense, Messiah has allowed only four goals in 2011. Gorman's superior defensive efforts earned her the Commonwealth tournament MVP as the women's team won their fifth straight Championship earlier this month.
The Academic All-American announcement comes less than 48 hours before the Falcons' women's soccer team competes in their eighth straight NCAA Division III Final Four. Messiah will meet a familiar foe, William Smith College, in the semi-finals. Despite beating the Herons 4-0 in last year's Final Four, the Falcons were pushed to a 0-0 tie during the regular season. The classic re-match will take place Friday at 12:00 pm EST.
